Why is printing my file so difficult!

When was the last time you said this at your local copy shop!  How many times have you brought in your Microsoft Word file to a printer that was 124 pages and walked away with 128 pages, if they even accept a Microsoft file?  Not only that, but you have to pay $0.60 to $1.00 per copy.  Did your colors look different from your original files?  Did your navy blue turn purple?  How many times did you have to give them fonts you thought were on the disk?  When you confronted your printer, did they basically blame your designer, the file or the program you used to create the document, not their lack of knowledge?  Why didn't the printer call you and let you know there may be a problem before they started the job? 

I don't have answers to why these things happen with your printer.

*Short-run is defined as jobs that are 500 sets or less, not 500 impressions or less.  Example:  45 pages printed 250 times would equal 11,250 impressions and would be considered short-run, but 1 page printed 5,000 times is not considered short-run.
